How do I know if I need a water filter or a softener?
They solve different problems. A water filter removes contaminants — sediment, chlorine, bacteria, metals. A water softener removes hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) that cause scale buildup on fixtures, in pipes, and in appliances. Many homes benefit from both. If you have city water in New Jersey, hardness and chlorine are the most common issues. If you have well water, testing is especially important. Either way, if you’re interested in a filtration or softening system, we’ll test your water first and recommend the best solution for your specific situation — not a one-size-fits-all package.
What are the signs of hard water?
White or chalky buildup around faucets and showerheads, spots on dishes and glassware, soap that doesn’t lather well, and skin that feels dry after showering. Hard water also shortens the life of water heaters and appliances by causing scale buildup inside them.
How often do filters need to be replaced?
It depends on the system and your water quality. Most sediment and carbon filters need replacement every 6–12 months. Reverse osmosis membranes typically last 2–3 years. We can set you up on a maintenance schedule so you don’t have to think about it.
